Today we did the first investigative search of an old township that once stood upon this site that is now owned privately and is all but vanished apart from a few small clues as to it's where abouts. Upon meeting with the owners and a local historian at 8.30 this morning, we exchanged information and maps that each of us had collected and shared them around so we all had the same information. Between us all we had a reasonable port folio on the location which is fantastic because there is little to no information on the public domain about this township. After a brief training session to teach the owners how to use the detectors we headed in to the property and started an assessment of the location with each of us heading in different directions to see where the hot spots were. The first paddock didn't yield a lot but we did find a couple of items hinting to what was where so we proceeded to the next paddock. At one end of this paddock we were getting hits all over the place so we picked a few choice signals to dig as a test of what was there and we were pleasantly surprised by a few buttons, an 1881 QV Penny in great condition, a few oddments of interest and of course, the obligatory trash. Sadly, we found that someone had entered the property with out the owners consent and had dug a lot of holes, all of which were left wide open so the finds for us were some what limited to the ones that they missed and we were able to find. There is definitely a lot more there that we will investigate further on future visits to the site. This is a few pictures of the best items and a few oddments.
